Killing Wolves for Fun

Those of you who know me well know that I run in the same spirit as the wolf. Once adopted by the wolf spirit, you remain forever tied to them.  For years I fought the law and the law won.  Aerial hunting is happening as we speak in the beautiful state of Alaska to the beautiful lobos that habitat there.  Small victories were won here and there, for instance the Yellowstone National Park pack but overall, ranchers and hunters have the money, the pull and lobbyists. And they want to kill wolves.

greywolf So now, after years of peace for the wolf in the mid-west, the federal government has removed the wolf from the endangered species list.  Hunting licenses, 14,000 of them at $19.00 a piece, have been issued allowing men with guns to shoot my beautiful wolves. Just as the species has begun to repopulate themselves, they must run and hide again, protect their cubs and live in fear for their lives.

I haven’t spoken of the wolf issue here on this blog or at all really because most of the time I just can’t.  I wind up a weeping mess and am left with such a  feeling of helplessness that I almost despise myself.  My white alpha female, she who accepted me into her pack must hang her head in shame and that’s a vision that horrifies me to my core.

Tonight I thought I could brave an article on the subject because I read a blog in the New York Times that is extremely well written, speaks for what many of us who dance with wolves feel and says it better then a lot of us could. Certainly better then I could.

I would be pleased if you would read it as well.  If it moves you please see the addresses below to write to the authorities to ask them to please stop this senseless killing.  There is absolutely no grounds for it and it makes us all the worse for each wolf killed.  And if you will, read the comments as well.  It amazed me that so many are so well informed about this issue and know that the tired old argument for hunting the wolf is not only unsound, but an outright lie.
