It is with great shock, disgust and quite frankly, embarrassment that I read this article today stating that Canada will not take a stand against the imports of dog and cat fur from Asian countries. The reason given was so lame as to be laughable if not for the heartbreak that is the torture and suffering of millions of dogs and cats in Asia that are tortured and killed every day for fur and meat.
It is incomprehensible to me that our great strong country would back away from taking a stand on this issue solely because it is worried about saving face on the seal hunt issue. Mr. Harper, we have no face on the seal hunt issue. We are wrong to sponsor this hunt every year and until we stop the seal hunt, we will always be viewed as barbarians by our global neighbors.
To back away from the banning of importation of cat and dog fur only serves to promote our bad image as ignorant, unsympathetic barbarians who support the beating of baby animals and the torture and killing of millions of dogs and cats that but for the grace of God, would otherwise be our family pets.
Mr. Prime Minister, on your homepage there is a link to fostering pets with a very pretty picture of you with some sweet kitties. Where exactly are you on this issue anyway? Do you have a position? Are you a lover of animals as you claim to be on that web page or are you a hypocrite?
I would really like to know. I would also really like to hear you come out of your office today and announce to the world that Canadians will NOT import cat or dog fur and that we WILL stand with our US and European brothers and sisters on this issue by banning all imports of cat and dog fur.
Please Mr Harper, this is a very important issue to me and up until I read this article today, I was fairly convinced that the next election would see me vote Conservative which I have absolutely NEVER done. And now that may remain forever true if you and your team do not reverse yourselves on this issue.
We put you in Ottawa to serve our best interests. I and the millions of Canadians who object to the torture of animals would appreciate it if you would start doing just that.
