It’s stories like these that make me wonder if the whole human race isn’t going to hell in a hand basket.  What kind of people have this much complete disregard for sentient beings?  Read on:

This is an ongoing investigation of horrendous and illegal cruelty to helpless birds in San Francisco, facilitated by San Francisco’s Animal Care & Control office’s failure to enforce California’s animal cruelty laws.

…So-called “spent” hens and roosters (“poultry”) are particularly victimized by the vendors, who stuff them upside down into paper or plastic bags – or paper bags inside plastic bags – for customers to take home, “often in their car trunks, after carrying them around shopping,” to kill as they please for food, ritual sacrifice or cockfighting.

Stepping on bird-for main page Customers also carry the live birds illegally sealed up in bags onto buses and rapid transit trains (MUNI & BART), and live birds are held in restaurants to be “fresh-killed” for restaurant patrons – a violation of San Francisco’s Department of Health Code 050, which states that “No live bird or fowl shall be kept or allowed in a food facility.”

Here is your chance to begin your animal advocacy participation.  A few minutes to compose a letter, the contents of which are provides to you and send to the addresses which are also provided.  I recommend that you change around the wording of the letters a bit to make them your own and add your own thoughts to the beginning paragraph and the last paragraph.  It’s not difficult to do once you’ve done one, trust me.

Chickens are people too and even though we raise them for food, they have the right to be treated humanely and decently while they are alive and still able to feel pain and suffering.
